Leesburg VA. At the Loudoun County
Fire and Rescue Center both paid and Vol. members of the dept attended
classes over several day's on how to handle the special needs of a farm
or a heavy equipment rescue.
Making a rescue on hard ground is
hard enuff but try it on soft field land, far from a road.
Getting
your equipment to the sight is hard. An keeping every thing stable can
be quite a task. So that is why this class was held. Not only did
members of the Loudoun Fire & Rescue it was open to rescue and
fighters from all over the state.
After class room work it was
time for putting all the skills learned to work. As the instructors
told the students there is no right way or wrong way to do this. You
have to use your eyes and brains. An know what your equipment can do. An
some times think out of the box.
Members of the class were
broken in three groups. and kept away from one another. So know one
could confer on the up coming station. Backing up the training centers
equipment were two heavy rescues unites one from Hamilton Station 17 and
the other from Leesburg Station 13.
The students were asked to
free people trapped by the front bucket of a front loader, a person who
was caught in a post auger, as well as a roll over. That pined a person
under its tire. After each rescue the instructors and the students
chatted about how it could have been done a different was using
different equipment. |
