With the days counting down before our new RES-Q-JACK’s arrive, Company 1 members used a demo set of jacks from Blue Ridge Rescue Suppliers to train on the new stabilization device. The RES-Q-JACK deluxe system will replace the Z-MAG system currently used on both Rescue 1 and Ladder 1. With static and dynamic jacks, vehicles can not only be stabilized but also lifted a short distance.

Firefighter Greg Fulton, who is assigned to Roanoke City’s extrication unit (Engine 5) taught the two hour drill on the RES-Q-JACK’S uses and applications. Members were able to stabilize a vehicle on it’s side, a vehicle overturned onto it’s top, and using both static and dynamic jacks the members lifted the front end of the vehicle to simulate removing a pinned victim. For any Company 1 member who missed this drill, there will be several more drills in the near future to update you on this new equipment.
