Racine Vol. Fire Dept.
Racine, West Virginia
The Racine VFD and the Boone County Ambulance Authority responded to an accident on WV Rt. 3 at Drawdy on 4 JAN 06 at approximately 9 pm. The driver, a 42 year-old male was trapped underneath the vehicle becoming pinned as he was partially ejected from the vehicle. As the rescuers stabilized the vehicle, it had to be raised by rescue jacks to allow removal of the driver. The position of the vehicle and patient and the proximity of both to a vehicle that was struck during the accident along with a gasoline leak created obstacles, but the less than 30 minute extrication went relatively smooth. The driver was taken by a BCAA Paramedic unit to a nearby landing zone where he was flown by HealthNet to a CAMC facility. The accident is under investigation by Senior Trooper Sutphin of the WV State Police.
