“Without having the Res-Q-JackÔ system available, our firefighters would not have been able to effectively stabilize this vehicle and extricate the injured patient in such a timely manner !”
Ron Moore, Fire Training Manager
Incident #1: On Saturday March 24th, just over 24 hours later, Station One Med-171, Engine 171 and Truck-171 C-shift responded to a two vehicle crash with people trapped. Arriving at the southbound Highway 75 service road in front of Good Eats Restaurant, OIC Lt. Wade found a man trapped in a F-150 pickup truck. What was unusual about the crash was that the pickup with the man inside it was perched precariously on its' edge, actually teetering on top of a curb in the parking lot. T-171 crew immediately deployed the RES-Q-Jack™ system and completely stabilized that vehicle within 90 seconds. The patient was then accessed and extricated on a longboard from the damaged cab of the pickup.
Incident #2: Two vehicle crash with a man trapped in a roll-over pickup truck sitting on dirt. Jack stands were deployed along with cribbing to stabilize the vehicle. The unrestrained driver was found with his back out through the lower door window. This was the driver's side of the pickup that was down. His arms, shoulder and head were outside the window, under the roofline. His waist was on the ground, his legs were inside the vehicle. The front A-pillar and driver's edge of the roofline was actually pinning him, holding him to the ground.
Patient contact was established as the crew members stabilized with the RJ jack stands and cribbing. Ground was soft dirt and grass along the side of a service road of one of our expressways. The vehicle was solid and rigid during the entire operation.
The roof was sawed off with our new 24v DeWalt recip saws and our power cutter. With the roof removed, the Priority One patient was longboarded and transported.
