Long Beach Firefighter Injured in Overturned SUV Print E-mail

OCEANSIDE, NY - Friday afternoon July 14th, the Oceanside Fire Department was alerted to a report of an auto accident with an overturned auto at the intersection of Lawson Blvd and Riverside Avenue.

Chief of Department Sean Lynch, Car 241, was advised by his dispatcher that multiple calls were being received including one which reported the driver of the overturned auto to be wearing a fire department t-shirt.

Chief Lynch arrived to find an heavily damaged SUV resting on it's driver side. The operator of the SUV had self extricated himself and reported to Chief Lynch that he was a member of the Long Beach Fire Department.

Oceanside units Squad 245, L-2442 and E-246 arrived, stabilized the auto and extinguished a small engine compartment fire.

The injured firefighter was immobilized and removed to South Nassau Communities Hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance. Long Beach fire chiefs were notified by Oceanside and responded to the hospital to meet their injured member.
